چکیده

Bus-driver’s task is to manoeuvre their bus through the chaotic reality on the roads, in a predictable way (following the timetables). In order to do so the bus-driver is equipped with various tools including a communication system. It has become evident that this communication system is inadequate to support the drivers' efforts to create efficient traffic flow. Facing a new generation of communication technology, one must observe in detail the daily practices of the drivers and identify where there is a demand for technical support. These are the objectives in the Bus Talk Informatics project. In this paper, we focus current practises where communication between bus-drivers are of importance, and evaluate how present technologies support the interaction. We will also outline a prototype description of a new communication aid especially designed for local mobile settings such as public transportation.

An evaluation of a lane support system for bus rapid transit on narrow shoulders and the relation to bus driver mental workload.

The use of dedicated bus shoulders is a key method for implementing bus rapid transit (BRT) in areas that do not have the space for additional infrastructure. However, the narrow width of the bus shoulder and the need to anticipate traffic hazards in the adjacent lane can both be significant stressors for bus drivers. Bus driver mental workload and stress in response to these conditions should ...

Supporting Bus Driver Collaboration: New Services for Public Transport Management

The development of mobile IT continuously provides new resources of use in the road environment. However, there are problems turning technical options into meaningful applications. This paper presents a method where observation of daily practices to identify users' demands to inform ITS-design. The particular case is bus driving and public transport management, seen from the bus-drivers’ perspe...

Cooperative Wireless Communications and Physical Layer Security: State-of-the-Art

One morning, we were waiting for our college bus. The Wipro industry bus was slowly passing nearby us looking for its employees. At the last moment, when the driver increased speed, one person stepped down from the auto rickshaw and shouted “stop the bus, stop the bus”. Voluntarily, whoever was present started shouting “stop, stop the bus”. The sound finally reached the bus driver who stopped t...

A Small-Scale CAN-Based PM BLDC Motor Control for Automotive Accessory Electrification and Electric Traction

This paper presents the development of an experimental platform to test a real-time controller for a small Permanent Magnetic Brushless Direct Current (PM BLDC) motor using a Controller Area Network (CAN) communication bus. The CAN communication bus transmits and receives information between modules to control the speed, acceleration/deceleration, and rotational direction of the motor. The desi...

Get More Device Drivers out of the Kernel!

Now that Linux has fast system calls, good (and getting better) threading, and cheap context switches, it’s possible to write device drivers that live in user space for whole new classes of devices. Of course, some device drivers (Xfree, in particular) have always run in user space, with a little bit of kernel support. With a little bit more kernel support (a way to set up and tear down DMA saf...
